MacAvoy, Who Was Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison, Was Released in 1995

Micky MacAvoy, one of the six men who took part in the Great Train Robbery of 1963, has died at the age of 89.

MacAvoy was part of the gang that robbed a Royal Mail train carrying £2.6 million in cash (equivalent to £46 million today).

The robbery was the biggest cash heist in British history and made headlines around the world.

MacAvoy was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the robbery.

He was released in 1995 after serving 12 years of his sentence.

MacAvoy died on 16 May 2023.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
